How does Down syndrome affect my baby’s development?

Children with Down's syndrome have some degree of learning disability and delayed development, but this varies widely between individual children. Always remember your baby will still achieve the milestones required.

Children with this condition may be slower to learn skills such as:

  • reaching
  • sitting
  • standing
  • walking
  • talking

Your baby will eventually gain these skills. It simply takes more time.

These children sometime also experience additional difficulties in development. Because of these problems, children with Down's syndrome often require extra support as they grow up and additional help at school.
